Gratitude, Always

"Take only what you need, step gently, and leave the land as healthy as you found it. That’s how we honour the gifts nature so generously shares with us."

- Melissa Finn

Part Of The Honourable Harvest Journey

This playful guide is perfect for first-time explorers and seasoned foragers alike, offering a hands-on way to discover plants, learn about woodland creatures, and safely venture into nature. It’s designed for all ages—so parents, caregivers, and teachers can explore these fun activities with children (or the young at heart) to spark curiosity, creativity, and outdoor adventures.

The Honourable Harvest

I first learned about the concept of an “honourable harvest” in Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. She beautifully highlights how, when we harvest something from nature, that living thing is giving its life to nourish us. It’s such a powerful reminder to be grateful and give back—whether that means leaving enough for the next creature, helping seeds spread, or simply offering thanks.

This spirit shapes how I explore and forage in the woods. Before I pick a plant, I pause to ask, “Is there enough here to share? Will my actions help keep this place thriving?” By taking only what we need and showing gratitude in return, we can form a deeper connection with nature and help ensure future explorers have the same wonderful experiences.
